Charlton Athletic manager Alan Pardew has confirmed his interest in Sunderland defender Paul McShane.

Despite the recent arrival of Portsmouth's Linvoy Primus on loan, Pardew is still keen to add another defender to his squad.

McShane is yet to feature for Roy Keane this term and his chances have not been helped by the arrival of Anton Ferdinand from West Ham.

Talks

Pardew has now confirmed he has held talks with Sunderland for McShane, although he is coy on whether he will join before the transfer window closes.

"Players will come in and go out, and we'd like to be on the back end of one deal where we get another defender because I think we're a bit short on experience," he told the club's official website.

"There has been some interest between ourselves and Sunderland. I think he's a good player and there will be a decision on him, perhaps in this window."
