Keane: Delighted
Sunderland boss Roy Keane admits he is satisfied with how his squad has shaped up after a busy period in the transfer market.
Keane has brought in 10 new players to the Stadium of Light with West Ham duo Anton Ferdinand and George McCartney arriving on Wearside in the last week ahead of Monday's deadline.
Steed Malbranque, Pascal Chimbonda, Teemu Tainio, El-Hadji Diouf, David Healy and Djibril Cisse have all joined the Black Cats to bolster Keane's squad and he admits he is relieved that the window is now closed.
"I'm delighted with what we've got," Keane told the club's official website.
"I was pleased to get George [McCartney] on the last day of business, very much so. We left it late but we'd been trying to negotiate with West Ham for a week or so, fortunately for us we got it done on the final day.
"That was the player I thought we needed in terms of the left-back position. At least it's over with now and we can relax and focus on the players we have."
McCartney is likely to feature in Sunderland's next game at Wigan on 13th September whilst Ferdinand is also expected to be in the frame after coming through a practice game.
Injured duo Tainio and Dean Whitehead are also poised to be available again.
"I would have thought George will feature at Wigan," said Keane. "He had one or two problems over the last few weeks but he was on the bench for West Ham last weekend, and the games he will get for Northern Ireland will help his fitness."
