Sunderland manager Roy Keane felt that a draw was a fair result after watching his side earn a 1-1 stalemate with Wigan at the JJB Stadium.

The Black Cats took an early lead, with Titus Bramble heading into his own net from Steed Malbranque's cross after 15 minutes.

However, Wigan then dominated proceedings and finally found a way through a solid Sunderland defence when Amr Zaki steered home Maynor Figueroa's cross with 13 minutes remaining.

While Keane admitted his disappointment at relinquishing two points, the former Manchester United midfielder admitted that the hosts were worth their equaliser.

Punished

"You never know after these international breaks how your team's going to perform again," Keane told Sky Sports.

"We, like Brucey (Steve Bruce), have had one or two players away and you just hope that you we can start the game well, and we did - we got the goal and had one or two other half chances.

"If we could have got the second goal I'm sure it would have been game over but we couldn't manage to do it and we've been in the Premiership long enough to know that if you don't take your chances you're going to get punished.

"They're a good team. I've watched them a couple of times this season and they've got a good squad, pace and the lad up front who scored so we knew it was going to be a tough second half and that's what it proved to be.

"In the second half, we opened them up on one or two occasions and it's just a shame that we couldn't find that second goal."
