Keane: Relaxed about contract

Sunderland boss Roy Keane says he is 'comfortable' about talks over his new deal at the Stadium of Light.

Talks over Keane's future have got under way with Black Cats chairman Niall Quinn holding discussions with the former Manchester United star's solicitor.

Keane's contract situation has been the subject of intense speculation for some time with the Irishman in the final year of his current deal, but the Black Cats boss insists he is happy with the progress being made on Wearside.

"We have had good talks in terms of the last few weeks," Keane told Sky Sports News.

"I think Niall [Quinn] sat down with my solicitor last week so I am very comfortable with what is going on at the club and the plans everyone has got and I am in total agreement with that."

Keane has set his sights on establishing Sunderland as a major force in the Premier League after helping them stay up last term.

"We certainly want to keep up the progress we have made and that is trying to get to the teams just above us.

"That would obviously be mid-table this year and after that then just above that, step by step."
