Andy Reid believes Sunderland must adopt a siege mentality if they are to shake off their shackles.

The Black Cats have hit a serious slump of late, slipping into the relegation zone on the back of a run which has brought just one win from their last six Premier League outings.

The dismal showings have seen Roy Keane's position as manager called into question, with the Irishman's position becoming increasingly untenable.

However, despite those outside the club predicting doom and gloom for the Wearsiders, Reid insists that everyone inside the Stadium of Light is confident of seeing a reversal in fortune over the coming weeks.

"Everybody needs to stick together," the Republic of Ireland international told the Northern Echo.

"The manager said that straight after Saturday's game (a 4-1 defeat to Bolton), and all of the players have been saying it as well.

"We're the only ones who can pick up the results we need. Other people can say whatever they want, but as players, we all know it's up to us to turn things around.

"We'll only do that if we stick together and believe in our ability.

"We know we have the ability in the squad. But if we don't pull together to get through this, none of that will matter."
