Sunderland midfielder Andy Reid has stressed his determination to break back into the Republic of Ireland squad.

Reid has been overlooked by manager Giovanni Trapattoni for next month's World Cup qualifier with Georgia.

Reports of a rift between Reid and Trapattoni continue to linger, but the former has not given up hope of catching the Italian coach's eye.

He told Sportsmail: "Of course I want to play for Ireland and I want to play in the World Cup.

"It has been a dream since watching the 1990 World Cup. I just need to get my head down, perform well and stay in the Sunderland team."
