Daryl Murphy has admitted the lure of first-team football was key to his decision to link up again with Ipswich boss Roy Keane.

Murphy has made just three Premier League appearances for Sunderland this season and has been signed by Keane on loan until the end of the campaign.

The 26-year-old striker enjoyed his best spell at Sunderland under Keane during the 2006-07 season, when he scored 10 goals to help the Blacks Cats to the Championship title.

The Republic of Ireland international has since fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light but is keen to boost Ipswich's bid to climb away from the Championship drop zone.

Moving on up

"Ipswich should be in a much better position than they are at the moment with the players they have here," he told the club's official website.

"I've come here to play football and help them move up the table and I'm looking forward to it.

"I've not played anywhere near the amount of games I would have liked at Sunderland recently so the chance to do that at Ipswich made it an easy decision for me to come here."
