Sunderland have denied claims they are set to sign Egypt international Ahmed Al-Muhammadi at the end of the season from ENPPI.

It had been reported a £2.5million deal had been reached and that the versatile 22-year-old performer would be discussing personal terms in the near future.

However, while Sunderland have confirmed that Al-Muhammadi underwent a trial with the Stadium of Light club last summer, there have been no fresh talks with ENPPI.

Chief executive Steve Walton insists the reports that Sunderland are closing in on Al-Muhammadi are 'wide of the mark' and that no deal is imminent.

"Whilst Al-Muhammadi was here on trial last summer we have had no subsequent contact with the player, his club or his representatives so these reports are wide of the mark," he told the club's official website.
