Steve Bruce described Sunderland's second-half performance against Wolves as a 'horror show'.

The Black Cats had led in their final game of the season thanks to Kenwyne Jones eighth-minute strike but ended up on the losing side after a 10th-minute penalty from Kevin Doyle and Adlene Guedioura's second-half matchwinner.

Bruce was hoping his side could end their season on a high by climbing into the top 10 but the Wearside boss was left frustrated by a second-half outing which saw his side end the game with nine men.

"We did OK in the first-half, I was pleased, but the second-half as far as I was concerned was a horror-show," Bruce told Sky Sports.

"In terms of our appetite I have to question them (the Sunderland players) and if we want to improve we've got to be better than that.

"I thought we were good enough for 10th place which would have been a decent return in my first season and I'm devastated everyone is thinking 13th is OK."

Sunday's away defeat was marred further by the dismissals of defender Michael Turner and midfielder Jack Colback, who was making his debut for the Black Cats.

"I though Jack was unlucky and Michael has gone in for a couple of challenges which he's missed so I suppose that's OK," Bruce added of the duo who were both sent off for two bookable offences.

"With Jack, the first one was a poor decision but it summed up the second-half."
