Sunderland have confirmed that Michael Turner will miss the first two games of next season following his red card at Wolves.

The 26-year-old was dismissed on the final day of the season in the Black Cats' 2-1 defeat at Molineux on Sunday for a second bookable offence.

It was Turner's second dismissal of the season after he was also sent off against Manchester City, with two red cards in one campaign activating a two-game ban as opposed to the standard one for being shown two yellow cards.

Turner, a key member at the heart of manager Steve Bruce's side, served an extended four-match ban in the wake of a failed appeal against his dismissal against City in December.

Jack Colback, who also saw red in his first senior appearance for the Wearsiders, will serve a one-match ban.
