Bodde: Unsettled

Derby have ended their interest in signing unsettled midfielder Ferrie Bodde after claiming they were being 'held to ransom' by Swansea.

The Rams have been chasing the Dutchman over recent weeks and tabled a third bid on Wednesday, believed to be in the region of £1.5million.

Bodde is keen on a move to Pride Park as Derby look to bounce back to the Premier League at the first attempt following their relegation last season.

However, Derby chairman Adam Pearson has now accused Championship rivals Swansea of demanding an unacceptable fee for the 26-year-old and has revealed his club have withdrawn their interest.

Not acceptable

"The goal-posts have moved - the price has gone up and we are not prepared to pay it," Pearson told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"This is not acceptable. We will not be held to ransom. We have formally withdrawn our offer and will watch the situation.

"It is disappointing because negotiations have been going on for a long time. We felt a deal could be done and the player has said he wants to come to Derby County."
