Skysports.com understands Birmingham are closing in on a move for Derby midfielder Stephen Pearson.

Pearson's future at Derby remains uncertain, with the former Celtic man spending the second half of last season on loan at Stoke.

Derby could be willing to let Pearson go for the right offer as they continue to prune their squad for the start of the new season.

Blues boss Alex McLeish is a big admirer of Pearson having worked with him during his time in charge of Scotland and would like to bring him to St Andrews.

McLeish is in the market for a left-sided midfielder, with Olivier Kapo expected to join Wigan despite a hitch over his move to the JJB Stadium.
