Savage: Tough times

Welsh midfielder Robbie Savage has vowed to win over the Derby County faithful.

Savage has come in for criticism from manager Paul Jewell and fans since signing for the club from Blackburn in January.

The 33-year-old has struggled for form, and he admits that his plight combined with the Rams' failure to win a league game since September 2007 has handed him the toughest test of his career.

But Savage is determined to prove a success at Pride Park, and insists he will give his all to gain the fans' support.

Nervous

"This undoubtedly as tough a time as I've known in my career," Savage said in the Daily Star.

"It's been very tough and obviously the Derby fans haven't taken to me yet.

"I know a lot of that's down to me. There's a lot of personal pride now in trying to win them over.

"It is hard because I do get nervous before a home game. It is difficult. It matters to me.

"To win them over is going to be the biggest challenge of my career, but all I can do is give it my best."
