Derby County have confirmed the appointment of Nigel Clough as the club's new manager.

Clough has agreed to end his 10-year stint in charge of Burton Albion in order to take over at Pride Park.

Paul Jewell resigned from his position as Rams boss last week, leaving Chris Hutchings to fill in on a temporary basis.

Hutchings secured a 4-3 win over Forest Green Rovers in the FA Cup third round on Saturday and was a contender for the job full time.

But Rams chairman Adam Pearson revealed on Monday that Clough was on the short list and his appointment has now been rubber-stamped.

In filling the vacancy, Clough emulates his father Brian, who was Derby manager between 1967 and 1973 when he presided over a golden spell in the club's history.

He took the club out of the Second Division and to the First Division title before also guiding the Rams to the semi-finals of the European Cup.

Clough jnr will be stepping into Football League management for the first time following his decade at the helm of Burton.

The 42-year-old has steered Burton up the non-league ranks and to the top of the Conference, where they currently hold a 13-point lead over Histon.

I think that Paul Jewell wasn't given the credit he deserved. He made the best out of a half injured team for the most part of this season. I was really worried that we wouldn't be able to find another good manager. But instead we have landed one of the best. Come on the Rams!!!

The oppointment does seem to be a step in the right direction. Lets hope he can steer the ship & whip up some passion which has been sadly lacking in the Rams ranks. I intend to give him some time & who knows in a couple of seasons we may be playing the likes of Man U, Liverpool & giving them a right good seeing to!!! Come on you RAMS...

I was there in the 'old' Cloughie days and it was amazing - for the town as well as DCFC. The most important thing is for the Club directors and owners to learn from the dreadful mistake of Sam Longson in letting personal differences come before the pride of Derby. DCFC may have won the league under MacKay but it never regained its pride in town and club. Its really great that we did not go for a proven name. Nigel seems really steady so lets look forward to a prolonged period when there is Pride at the Park and in the town.

I hate Derby, But admire Nigel and wish him all the best at Derby. But i hope all people connected to Derby realise he is his own man and not his dad. There was and only ever be one Brian Clough and Nigel will never give Derby the Prem league title because of one thing and one thing alone..... MONEY. Shame you didnt finish the job off at Burton but thats football good luck Nigel you might need it.

A great appointment. Nigel has proven to be a successful manager in the lower leagues and has shown his dedication by staying as Burton manager for as long as he did. Derby really need to give him time to change things at the club regardless to where they finish this season. All great coaches are ones who have been given years (not months) to turn a club around. Nigel has the ability to be a successful manager at this level and I wish him all the luck in the world.

Nigel has proved nothing at this level of management yet although his record with Burton is second to none. His arrival has given our fans a huge lift, and there is optimism and new enthusiasm on the streets of Derby today. It's a shame he couldn't seal his legacy at Burton by getting them promoted this season. He is now in a position where avoidance of relegation will be a success this year. Hopefully he's the right man to turn the ship around and lift the gloom at pride park, the fans will give him time because we want him to succeed. His most imortant signing at Derby will be his assistant manager,

It would be interesting to watch a new Clough dynasty unfold, if he was half as good as his dad then he will be a very good manager indeed. Kind of wish Blackpool took more of a chance and signed him up or Billy Davies when he was available. We may end up paying for dithering around here. Do hope not.

Great appointment for Derby, stop comparing Nigel to his dad. Nigel is his own man and his own manager. I urge the supporters to give him time to produce results and the football we know his side can produce. As for the chairman and directors give him all the support you can, even if things look tough at some stage, as the Derby faithful will turn on you before they turn on a Clough. As for the bitter Forest fans, your appointment of Billy is a short term fix to get you out of the mess your already in. He won't be there much longer 1 season. Nigel appointment is for the long term. The buzz around the town is awesome!!

As a Forest Supporter, I am gutted that Nigel has ended up at Derby as I feel he should be Forest Manager, but having said that Good luck to Nigel, he is a fantastic under rated Manager and I will tip him to become England Manager one day, a feat that his Father never achieved because the big wigs were scared of him....Good luck Nigel and to Derby for that matter, but only after the FA Cup, hahaha.

I would like to wish ''Our' Nige all the best at Derby. He was one of my heroes as a kid when i used to go to the City Ground to watch my beloved Forest. I have mixed emotions really as i'm pleased he's been given a chance to manage at a higher level, but then again quite saddened it's not with Forest, although i'm quite optamistic in the recent appointment of Billy Davies. It certainly adds extra spice to the forthcoming FA Cup tie. GOOD LUCK TO BOTH MANAGERS

I am gutted for Burton Albion to be losing such a good manager, he has worked wonders at the club and has done it by getting players for nothing. i never forget to time when he came to Albion, it was like we'd won a cup! it is a great move for him, and wish him all the best. maybe his dad would have wanted him to manage Derby one day??

Hopefully he will be given a chance. No doubt people will make comparisions to his dad's time at Derby but that is unfair as Brian Clough is one of the best manager's of all time. Should of been England manager and (as my grandad says) is the best manager Man United have never had. Give him time and he will do the job for Derby
