Mile Sterjovski has revealed that he quit Derby in order to keep his World Cup ambitions alive.

The Australia international has left the Rams after struggling to hold down first-team football at Pride Park.

He has since headed home and penned a three-year deal with Perth Glory.

Sterjovski is now hoping to find regular action in the A-League, allowing him to force his way into the Socceroos squad heading to South Africa next year.

"The problem was I wasn't starting enough," Sterjovski, who made 30 appearances in 18 months with the Rams, told the Derby Telegraph.

"I wasn't playing enough games and that's going to be important for me in the next season.

"I had a great relationship with everyone at the club, I loved Derby and the supporters. There were no problems there at all.

"But I'm determined to be part of the World Cup and playing regularly at a successful club will enhance my chances."
