Tyrone Mears has agreed a deal to join Premier League new boys Burnley from Derby, skysports.com understands.

The former West Ham and Preston defender has been locked in talks with the Clarets after they agreed an undisclosed fee for the full-back.

Mears, who spent last season on loan at French giants Marseille, has been impressed by Owen Coyle's plans for Burnley and has agreed a three-year deal at Turf Moor.

The player's agent, Willie McKay, confirmed a deal had been struck between all parties, with Mears poised to become Burnley's first signing of the summer.

"Tyrone has agreed personal terms and passed a medical at Burnley," McKay told skysports.com.

"He has agreed a three-year deal and he should be unveiled in the next 24 hours.

"Tyrone really enjoyed his time at Marseille, but he could not turn down the chance to return to England with Burnley.

"He is really excited by the move and is looking forward to helping Burnley in their first season in the Premier League."
