Plymouth Argyle will make a decision on Friday regarding a possible deal for Derby County defender Jermaine Johnson.

The teenager has been training with the Championship strugglers this week and played for the reserves against Forest Green Rovers.

He is being lined up as cover for Reda Johnson, who is waiting to learn the full extent of an injury which is being assessed.

The Pilgrims' assistant head coach John Carver confirmed the club will not make an offer for Derby's Johnson until the club know how long his namesake will be sidelined.

"We're not going to make any decision over whether to borrow the lad (Jermaine Johnson) until Friday morning," Carver told The Herald.

"The physio is working on Reda's injury and so until we get a clearer picture of how he is fixed, we're not going to rush into anything.

"The (reserve) match was so one-sided in our favour that it's impossible to judge anyone on that one game, anyway."
