Nigel Clough feels Derby County are close to signing two players and has reiterated his interest in Scunthorpe United striker Gary Hooper.

The Rams have already tied defender Russell Anderson to a long-term contract and Clough is making inroads in his quest to further strengthen his squad.

Tomasz Cywka, who is currently on loan at Pride Park from Wigan Athletic, is expected to agree a permanent deal and Clough also has another signing on the horizon.

"We are close to getting two in next week, which will be a good start and Russell Anderson's new deal was done a week or so ago," Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"The moves where a transfer fee will be needed take longer as clubs try to get the best deal.

"We will try to do business as early as we can so we know we are settled, but I don't think we will have the squad in place fully, because it might be dictated by one or two loans in July and August."

Principles

Clough is also keen to add Scunthorpe hit-man Hooper to his squad, but confirmed he will only pursue a deal if the price is right.

He added: "We would love him, but the deal has to be right.

"He has proved himself in the last two seasons, but I don't think it would be right to go back on the principles we have laid down in the last 18 months.

"If it is a good deal fee-wise and contract-wise then, yes, we would certainly be interested. If they are going above our valuation of him, then we will walk away and move onto the next target."
