Wolves, Arsenal, Chelsea and Sunderland were all victorious in their latest pre-season outings.

Saturday brought an action-packed afternoon of activity, with clubs looking to step up their preparations for the 2010/11 campaign.

Among the more convincing victors were Premier League title hopefuls Arsenal, who crushed Barnet 4-0 courtesy of goals from Andrey Arshavin, two from Jay Simpson and a late effort from Samir Nasri.

Chelsea welcomed Michael Essien back into the first-team fold for their trip to Crystal Palace, and he grabbed the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory for the Blues.

Wolves brushed aside Irish champions Bohemians 3-0, with Jody Craddock, new recruit Steven Fletcher and Geoffrey Mujangi Bia among the goals.

Sunderland were thankful for a late effort from Bolo Zenden as they edged past Darlington in a North East derby.

Newcastle also tasted success after making the short trip to Carlisle, with Leon Best, Nile Ranger and Haris Vuckic on target in a comfortable 3-0 win at Brunton Park.

Strike duo Carlton Cole and Benni McCarthy were on target as West Ham United enjoyed a 2-0 win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

David Dunn's 45-yard screamer stole the show as Blackburn eased past Southport, although Pascal Chimbonda and Maceo Rigters were also on target.

Gabriel Tamas scored the decisive goal as West Brom defeated VVV Venlo 2-1 on their pre-season tour of Holland.

Managerless Fulham endured a slightly trickier afternoon at Bournemouth, with a Bobby Zamora equaliser required to earn them a 1-1 draw with the League One new boys.

Daniel Cousin spared Hull City's blushes as he snatched a late winner against York, while Dean Leacock helped Derby past Burton Albion.

Sheffield Wednesday suffered a disappointing 2-1 defeat away at Grimsby Town as they get ready for life in League One.

Third tier Oldham Athletic also came unstuck, as they went down 2-0 against Falkirk.

Huddersfield will be expected to mount a promotion push this season, but were held 1-1 by Bury in their latest fixture.

Brighton crashed to a shock 3-2 defeat at Eastbourne Borough, while Tranmere saw off Marine by the same scoreline.

Macclesfield were in seventh heaven as they mauled Leek Town 7-1 and Lincoln City had reasons to be cheerful as they eased past Walton Casuals 3-1.

Aldershot put four past Didcot Town, Cheltenham went one better against Gloucester and Alfreton Town held local rivals Chesterfield to a 1-1 draw.

Elsewhere, Northampton scraped a 2-1 win away at Corby, Peterborough saw off Rushden & Diamonds 3-1 and St Johnstone flexed their muscles in a 3-1 victory over Forfar.
