Skysports.com understands that Preston are poised to sign former Norwich midfielder Darel Russell on a three-year deal.

The 29-year-old is a free agent after being released by the Canaries at the end of last season and he is set to move to Deepdale.

Russell has passed a medical with Preston and has also agreed personal terms and his signing is expected to be officially confirmed later on Wednesday.

Preston won the race to the ex-Stoke player's signature ahead of a number of other clubs.

Russell began his career at Norwich in 1997 before moving to the Potters for a four-year spell in 2003 prior to his return to Carrow Road.
