MacDonald: Equalised for Albion
West Brom's opening pre-season friendly ended in disappointment as they lost 2-1 to Borussia Monchengladbach.
The match promised to be closely contested as it pitted the Premier League new boys against the Bundesliga Two champions.
Held in the German city of Goch, Monchengladbach took the lead through Roberto Colautti on the stroke of half-time.
Baggies boss Tony Mowbray used all 20 of the outfield players at his disposal and it was substitute Sherjill MacDonald who equalised on 64 minutes with a powerful shot from the edge of the area.
However, Moses Lambidi restored Monchengladbach's advantage nine minutes later and West Brom could not fight back for a second time.
New signing Marek Cech watched his team-mates from the sidelines but former Aston Villa forward Luke Moore made his first start since his loan move was made permanent.
