Sky Sports News understands West Bromwich Albion have made an improved offer for Abdoulaye Meite.

Bolton Wanderers recently turned down a £1.25million bid from the Baggies, who have now upped the ante to £1.5million.

Meite has been tipped to leave the Reebok Stadium over the summer after falling out with Gary Megson last season.

However, the Trotters boss has stated that the defender will not be moving on until his valuation is met, with reports claiming Megson wants £2million.

West Brom's fellow Premier League new boys Hull City are also keen on Meite, but have been put off by the asking price.

Baggies manager Tony Mowbray is looking to beef up his defensive options before the opening game of the season against Arsenal on 16th August.

Mowbray is close to signing Madjid Bougherra from Charlton Athletic, with skysports.com understanding the Algerian has agreed personal terms.
