West Brom manager Tony Mowbray has urged critics to judge his side after three months instead of three games after they battled to a goalless draw away at Bolton.

Mowbray believes his side looked comfortable playing in the top flight of English football and he praised the way his side dealt with the physical battle of a rugged Bolton outfit.

The Baggies boss believes his team has played well in each of its first three fixtures, and he feels these early performances are more important than picking up points.

West Brom slipped to 19th place in the league despite picking up their first point of the season, but Mowbray says he is confident his team will score goals and win matches.

He said: "We knew what we were going to get today in Bolton. We had to defend a thousand corners, it felt like, but it shows the character of our team to be able to do that.

"I think particularly in the first half we dominated the football match and should have been in front, and then we probably had the best chance of the game and didn't finish it off.

"So we're disappointed with a point but at the same time it was a game we could have easily lost. I have never known a team to get so many free kicks - it was frightening.

Confident

"This team will score goals. We have had three matches in the Premier League and have done exceptionally well in all of them.

"I don't think the points tally reflects our play but I am a big believer in performance levels.

"After 15 games, let's see where we are, not after two or three. I think if we play as well as we have done these first three games then we will win plenty of matches."

Mowbray singled out the performance of Do-Heon Kim, and he praised the way Abdoulaye Meite coped with the powerful Kevin Davies before limping off injured.

The West Brom manager also spoke highly of newcomer Borja Valero who made his first start of the season and made it through almost an hour.

Mowbray said: "Borja picked some lovely passes up and broke away and caused problems, but he is not up to the pace yet.

"He is not up to the fitness levels required for the Premiership and he is finding the physicality of the league difficult.

"That's why he's getting a bit of a game here, a bit of game there. Hopefully in a month or two he will be up to the pace."

Targets
With just two days left until the transfer window closes, Mowbray said he is still keen to bring in some new faces.

"We will keep working hard. It has been a long transfer window and I am particularly looking forward to when it closes.

"Hopefully there is one or two more additions that will help the team and on the evidence of the first three games, we don't need that much help.

"The squad is very much together and we have shown today we can fight our corner and we showed, particularly against Everton for an hour or so last week, that we can play in any company. We are looking forward to the rest of the season. "
