Bednar: Confident
Roman Bednar believes Saturday's victory over West Ham proved that West Brom belong in the Premier League.
The Baggies only picked up one point from their first three games of the season but they came out on top in a five-goal thriller against the Hammers on Saturday.
Bednar is convinced that West Brom can compete in the top flight but he realises the importance of building on the latest result.
"It was a very, very crucial win as we needed the three points badly," the Czech Republic forward told sport.cz.
"Finally we have won in the Premier League and have proved to ourselves that we can beat anyone.
"Anyway, we must keep picking up points to prove we deserve to be in the middle of the table and not to get worried with a relegation battle.
"It has come as a great relief so the mood has been good. Also our self-confidence has raised a lot."
Bednar was selected in the starting line-up for the first time this season and justified Tony Mowbray's decision with his second goal of the campaign.
Both goals have been penalties but Bednar hopes that he has done enough to keep his place.
He said: "The coach probably saw how hard I worked in training and how I suffered from not getting the chance. Maybe that was the reason (for his selection).
"We needed to win at last, so he changed the formation, we played two strikers and that is why I was in the starting line-up for the first time.
"I missed two chances but eventually I scored a goal and that is why I hope I have made the coach think."
Bednar accepts that he will need to play more frequently if he is to win a place in Petr Rada's Czech Republic side.
"I first have to play regularly for West Brom. To sit among the substitutes or, even worse, in the stand is terrible for me," he said.
"A start for the national team would mean everything to me. I am optimistic so I believe I will fulfil my dream and will get into the national team."
