West Brom manager Tony Mowbray insists he has not approached Lens regarding the possible signing of Aruna Dindane.

Reports suggested the striker has agreed a January loan move to The Hawthorns, with a view to a permanent deal in the future.

The Baggies are understood to be looking for extra firepower in the battle to avoid relegation, but Mowbray has rubbished the rumours that Dindane is set to arrive in England.

"I'm not sure where this came from," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail. "I've heard about four or five other names we're supposed to be linked with.

Talk

"Aruna Dindane has been out for eight months with a cruciate ligament injury and hasn't kicked a ball.

"We talk about lots of players and his name would have been mentioned but, categorically, there has been no contact between the football clubs."

However, the Baggies boss has hinted that he could consider an approach for the Ivory Coast international in the future.

"Is it right that we would take him on loan - well let's see what he does over the next few months," added Mowbray

Wild card

"We are at a stage where we're trying to identify players. No deals have been done for any player. He's a long shot - wild card."

Meanwhile, Mowbray has called for calm after a 3-0 weekend loss at Liverpool saw his side suffer their fourth defeat in five games, taking them to the foot of the Premier League table.

"If we'd won on Saturday we might have jumped five, six, seven places," he said. "We're still very much in touch and we've shown we can compete.

"If you look at the league table there is nothing to get concerned about at this stage."
