Greening confident of survival

Jonathan Greening has insisted that spirits are still high in the West Brom camp following the defeat to Stoke.

The Baggies have slumped to the foot of the Premier League table after losing six of their last seven games, and they are now four points from safety.

However, Greening has been encouraged by some of West Brom's recent performances and is targeting three points against Wigan on Saturday.

He said: "We haven't been spanked by anybody who is in and around us.

"Even in the Hull game, which we lost 3-0, we dominated most of it but had a bad seven or eight minutes.

"We're still quite confident. We've got to keep believing and try to push on - starting against Wigan."

Experience

Greening admitted earlier this week that he would like manager Tony Mowbray to bring in some more experienced players during the transfer window.

He accepts that senior members of the squad such as himself and Paul Robinson have a massive role to play in helping the Baggies overcome their current plight.

He explained: "I don't think belief will fade but you might think you are not getting any luck - and the confidence can start to dip a little bit.

"But it's our job to pull everyone together behind the experienced players like myself, Deano (Dean Kiely) and Robbo (Robinson).

"We need to get everyone together because there are a lot of young lads.

"There is probably only me, Deano, Robbo and Scott Carson who have played in the Premier League before.

"Everyone else is new to it and we have a lot of young lads. It's a learning curve for them but we will be there for them. If we keep believing in what we're doing, it will help."
