Roman Bednar has expressed his delight after scoring West Brom's winner against Manchester City.

It looked as though City had earned a draw at The Hawthorns when Felipe Caicedo's backheel brought about an equaliser just four minutes from time with Scott Carson unable to keep the ball out.

However, Bednar headed home in the second minute of stoppage time to secure a vital 2-1 victory for West Brom.

Bednar was overjoyed to find the target after squandering a couple of earlier opportunities, and he was later praised by manager Tony Mowbray.

"When I had not managed to take some good chances before, I said to myself I did not want to be blamed for not winning," Bednar told Denik Sport.

"So the goal was kind of a delivery. It is unbelievable. I took my jersey off and ran towards my girlfriend and the fans.

"After the game people in the dressing room called me 'different class' or 'world class'.

"It is true that I lost the ball once or twice during the game and I was on the move all the time.

"We co-operated well mainly with Luke (Moore). The coach was certainly satisfied as he came to me and two or three times shook hands with me."

Bednar admits he was worried that West Brom had dropped more points in their battle to avoid the drop when City drew level.

He explained: "We felt that it was happening again and that if we did not wake up, we would possibly concede another.

"Everyone must have been saying the same thing after we conceded. Fortunately, we won. The whole team worked at 120 per cent, so we deserved it."
