West Brom top-scorer Roman Bednar is eager to play again after being laid low with a troublesome back problem.

The Czech international has been out since he injured his back in a heavy fall on the Baggies' recent training camp in Spain.

While he is still not totally fit, he is raring to return in West Brom's crucial league encounter against West Ham on 16th March.

Bednar told the club's official website: "I landed heavily from a great height on the base of my back.

Sore

"The pitch was hard but at the time it just felt a bit sore and I carried on training.

"But a couple of days later it started to swell up and get really painful and I wasn't able to train.

"It died down and I was due to be in the squad for last Saturday's game at Everton.

"But the day before I got a knock in a collision on the training ground and it swelled up to the size of a tennis ball.

Die down

"The swelling didn't die down in time for Tuesday's Arsenal game but I have been back in training for the last couple of days.

"I'm still having to take things easy and make sure I don't get another blow on my back.

"But unless it gets caught again, I should be fine and available for the team against West Ham."

As well as Bednar's comeback, Baggies boss Tony Mowbray will also be boosted by the return of fellow striker Jay Simpson, who was ineligible for the latest defeat to his parent club Arsenal.
