West Brom captain Jonathan Greening has pleaded with the club to stick with boss Tony Mowbray even if they suffer relegation.

The Baggies are facing an uphill battle to stay in the Premier League as they are seven points adrift of safety with just six matches left to play.

Greening, who recently revealed he plans to stay at the Hawthorns if they go down, believes Mowbray is the right man to lead West Brom in the future.

"I hope the chairman shows faith in the manager. Personally I really enjoy playing for him and believe in how he likes us to play and training is always good," said Greening.

"The fans really like him as well and I think he is trying to build a good team for the future.

"The gaffer has been fine, always bright and bubbly around the training ground. He has been great. He is always upbeat and just wants us to do well.

"I am sure the chairman knows how good he is and hopefully he will back him all the way."

Defence

Greening also rejected criticism that West Brom have struggled because of their style of play.

Sceptics have suggested Albion's open and attractive style of football is the reason they are bottom of the table, but Greening believes it is mistakes that have cost the side.

"The gaffer thinks the right way of doing it is by playing the way we do," added Greening

"If you look at some of the best teams, we like to try and play the way they do. I am not saying we are as good as them. They have world-class players.

"Yes, we are bottom of the Premier League playing the way we are - but I don't think there is any wrong or right way of playing.

"People said we wouldn't get promoted playing this way last season and we did. Stoke came up with us and play a different way to us and they look as if they are going to survive.

"There is no right or wrong way of playing. I think it is just that mistakes can cost you, lack of experience can cost you.

"From our point of you, we haven't got much experience in the team really and mistakes have cost us most of the year."
