Roman Bednar has urged West Brom to make sure they secure an automatic promotion spot into the Premier League.

The Baggies leapfrogged Nottingham Forest into second place in the Championship after overcoming Blackpool 3-2 on Wednesday.

And Bednar, who bagged a brace in the midweek win at Bloomfield Road, admits he is enjoying his football after regaining his starting place as a lone striker in Roberto Di Matteo's side.

The 26-year-old Czech Republic international has told his team-mates they must keep hold of their current position so they do not face the lottery of the play-offs.

Automatic promotion

"I cannot be happier at the moment," said Bednar. "Both me and the team have been doing well lately.

"Since we made some big changes in the line-up I have been all alone up front and that suits me.

"I want to return to the Premier League without having to go through the play-offs. I have been waiting a long time to get another chance and now I have to make the best of it."

Bednar's season did not start well after being suspended by West Brom in May following a drug scandal in which the former Hearts target man had been cautioned by the Police for possession of a Class A substance.

But the eight-goal forward insists he has always had the fans' backing and the Hawthorns.

"They have always been behind me," Bednar added of the West Brom faithful. "Even in the bad times, and I am grateful to them for that and want to repay their confidence by hard work."
