Ngog: Staying put
I can't stop players being linked with other clubs. I certainly have never discussed him leaving
. Roy Hodgson on David Ngog
Quotes of the week
Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson has revealed he has never considered loaning out striker David Ngog.
Ngog got Hodgson's Liverpool tenure off to a winning start with a clinical double in Thursday's Europa League win over FK Rabotnicki in Macedonia.
French forward Ngog has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer with West Brom confirming their interest in the 21-year-old.
However, Ngog has expressed his desire to stay at Liverpool and Hodgson insists he has no plans to lose the former Paris St Germain man.
"I can't stop players being linked with other clubs. I certainly have never discussed him leaving," said Hodgson.
"I think Ngog has done well in the pre-season matches so far and he has worked very hard in the training sessions.
"I was pleased that he crowned his performance with two goals.
"I thought his target play, his general movement and his ability to keep the ball for us was also very good.
"But front players need goals and that will be a very big weight off his mind.
"It will mean he doesn't have to worry too much about the coming matches."
Meanwhile, Lucas Leiva has spoken of his pride at captaining the club for the first time in a competitive game.
The Brazilian took the skipper's armband with Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher both missing the game against FK Rabotnicki and Lucas hopes he did a good job in the absence of the senior pair.
"It is a really good achievement for me," Lucas told Sky Sports News. "I am really proud, really happy but the most important thing was to win.
"I know I have a lot of senior players in front of me, but i hope i did a good job."
