Roy Hodgson has revealed that Shane Long has a 50 per cent chance of being fit for West Brom's clash with Norwich on Sunday, while Peter Odemwingie should be ready in time.

Long suffered a calf problem whilst on international duty with the Republic of Ireland last week and did not travel to Moscow with the rest of Giovanni Trapattoni's squad for Tuesday's match against Russia.

The injury is not serious but Baggies manager Hodgson admits he is in a race against time to be in contention for the weekend Premier League fixture at Carrow Road.

Hodgson is more confident that Odemwingie will be available, with the Nigerian striker recovering well from the knee problem that kept him out of the loss to Stoke.

Time will tell

"We think Peter is going to be okay," Hodgson told the club's official website. "With Shane, it's too early to say.

"It's a calf strain - not a pull or a completely damaged muscle - just the fibres.

"The medical staff are working on it at the moment but I think his chances are being put at 50-50 and only time will tell.

"It all depends on how quick a healer he is, really.

"With people who heal quickly, the time would be enough, and with people who heal a bit more slowly, the extra week might be needed."
