Hodgson: Does not want to overburden Gera as the pair seek to push West Brom up the table
West Brom boss Roy Hodgson does not want to overburden fit-again Zoltan Gera as he returns from injury.
The Hungary international took part in full training for the first time this week after rejoining the Baggies from Fulham in the summer transfer window.
While the attacking midfielder has now recovered from his ankle injury, Hodgson wants to protect the 32-year-old who is short of match fitness.
The Baggies boss told the club's official website: "Zoltan is fit.
"He's not match fit because he hasn't played a game since last season, but he's looking very good physically.
"Of course, he's short of match practice so I wouldn't be looking to throw him in from the start of the game unless I have to.
"If we have other alternatives, the chances are I will leave it a bit longer because he has only done two training sessions with half a team."
Hodgson added: "Zoltan started training with us on Monday.
"He could be in the squad for Norwich but it will depend on what has happened in the internationals - who comes back fit and what my choices are.
"It's a long season and I certainly don't want to throw him in before I have to."
