Nicky Shorey is not expecting manager Roy Hodgson to panic following West Bromwich Albion's difficult start to the new season.

The Baggies are yet to claim a point so far this term after following up narrow defeats against title contenders Manchester United and Chelsea with a 1-0 home reverse by Stoke City.

West Brom face promoted Norwich City on Sunday and full-back Shorey is confident Hodgson will soon have the team making progress up the table.

"The manager isn't somebody who is going to panic and that's the best way to be," said Shorey.

"It was the same when he came in last season. It was a very difficult time for us but you would never have guessed it from the way he was with the lads.

"He was excellent even when we didn't get anything. He will have seen what we are doing right and what we are doing wrong and realise that we are not far away from picking up some points."

Foster backing

An error from summer signing Ben Foster cost West Brom against Stoke before the international break, but Shorey has backed the goalkeeper.

He added: "To be fair, Ben has come in and been excellent. You would have thought he had been here years the way he gets on with everyone. He's a good lad.

"Mistakes always happen in football. But we are fully behind one another here.

"We have to take heart from our performances and remember that it is still early in the season.

"I don't want to say we've been unlucky but we certainly feel we could have got something from each of the three games so far.

"It's disappointing to have nothing after three games and you want to get those first points as quickly as possible."
