Peter Odemwingie and Shane Long's burgeoning partnership will only get better, according to manager Roy Hodgson.

The two were paired for the first time against Norwich on Sunday and it was the Baggies' top-scorer last term, Odemwingie, that provided the winning solitary strike.

Long was recruited over the summer for £6.5million from Reading and, having missed the Republic of Ireland's recent friendlies, passed a late fitness test.

Hodgson was left full of optimism as his two lead attackers dovetailed so well together to leave him confident of more goals to come.

Promise

"I saw a lot of promise, a lot of potential," said Hodgson.

"It was Odemwingie's first start of the season after a long period of injury and for Shane, we were doubtful if he could take part because of the calf strain he picked up with the Republic of Ireland.

"I saw a lot of promise, a lot of potential."
Roy Hodgson Quotes of the week

"All things considered, they did well - but I would like to think there is more to come from them and they can play even better together."

West Brom secured their first win of the campaign against the Canaries as Scotland international Graham Dorrans made his first appearance of the season.

Lost

They had been beaten in their opening three games but despite that the Midlands outfit had not lost their confidence.

"We were always confident the results would come," he said.

"We have played Manchester United and Chelsea, two massive teams and were unlucky to lose against Stoke to a goal in the last minute.

"We had to weather the storm a bit against Norwich, but we were always confident we could go to places like that and get the points."
