James Morrison admits West Brom have become slightly 'one-dimensional' and need to work harder on making their 4-4-2 system work.

The Baggies have altered their approach this season following the arrival of Shane Long.

Roy Hodgson has opted to pair the Republic of Ireland international alongside Peter Odemwingie, rather than stick with the lone frontman formation that served the club so well last season.

Morrison acknowledges that a tactical rethink has had an adverse effect on results, with West Brom having suffered four defeats in their opening five Premier League fixtures.

He is, however, confident that a two-pronged attack can work and believes it is up to the players to prove that they can adapt to a new system - starting in Wednesday's Carling Cup clash with Everton.

"I think we're a bit one-dimensional at the moment and we need to work on how we're going to cope with teams when they're causing us problems," Morrison told the Express and Star.

"We are capable of causing other teams problems but we can't just wait for things to happen.

"Saturday (a 3-0 defeat to Swansea) was a disappointing day and hopefully we can put it right on Wednesday."

He added: "I think we've had long enough under Roy and to know that he expects us to keep our shape.

"Longy and Pete are up there and hopefully they can form a strong partnership."
