West Brom boss Roy Hodgson was pleased with the improvement his players made in the second half against Fulham but accepts a 0-0 draw was a fair result.

The Baggies we well below par in the opening 45 minutes at the Hawthorns but, after a tactical change, they improved after the break.

Chris Brunt hit the post and Peter Odemwingie saw his shot well saved as Albion pushed for a winner, but they had to be content with a point that at least lifts them off the foot of the Premier League table.

Speaking after the game Hodgson admitted his side were poor in the first half but was pleased with the players' reaction after half-time.

"I thought they were clearly the better team in the first half, I was not too happy with our performance, I don't think we played well at all," Hodgson told Sky Sports.

"But the second half was a night and day scenario. We played so much better, took the game to them and while they had much the better of the first half especially in terms of possession I thought we had much the better of the second and possibly had slightly more of a goal threat."

System

Hodgson also revealed that he had experimented with a new formation in the first half, but reverted back his usual formation after the break.

"I've changed our system but against a team of Fulham's undoubted organisation and passing ability the players didn't quite interpret it as I was maybe dreaming they would," added the former Fulham manager.

"In the second half we went back to the system we have worked on and practiced for the past seven or eight months and it made us look a much more solid team.

"But over the course of the 90 minutes it was a fair result and it was particularly pleasing for me that we got ourselves going and played the football I wanted us to play after a first half that was well below par."
