Wolves goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey has spoken out about his recent absence from the first-team.

The 23-year-old, who was a mainstay in Wolves' Championship-winning team last season, lost his place in December to current No.1 Marcus Hahnemann and has yet to appear for the side since.

Hennessey was a second-half substitute after replacing Boaz Myhill in Wales' 1-0 defeat at home to Sweden on Wednesday, giving him a rare opportunity to show Wolves boss Mick McCarthy what he can do.

"I just have to keep my head down, keep on training well and we will see what happens. Who knows what will happen," he said.

"I haven't been getting action with Wolves, which has been difficult, but the gaffer gave me half a game last night, so it was my chance to try to show something.

"It was nice to be back in action. We were 1-0 down and it's hard to go into a game like that but then again it was good piece of action for me."

McCarthy chose to make a change in goal following his side's 4-0 defeat to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in December by giving 36-year-old Hahnemann the nod ahead of Hennessey, a decision that seems unlikely to be reversed in the near future.

But the Welsh keeper was full of support for his American counterpart, insisting he wanted the best for the team and will concentrate on trying to take any opportunity that comes his way.

"I don't know the reasons for my exclusion but Hahnemann is doing well and he will get 'all the best' from me," Hennessey added.

"I will just try to get my chance and when I do get it I will try to take it."
