Bristol City manager Gary Johnson is hoping to extend the loan deal of Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo for another month.

Iwelumo has scored once in four appearances for the Robins since joining last month and is due to return to Wolves after the Championship game against Reading on 13th March.

However, Johnson has been holding talks with his Wolves counterpart Mick McCarthy regarding a possible extension for the Scotland international.

"We'd like to keep Chris for another month," Johnson told the club's official website. "I speak to Mick McCarthy after every couple of games to let him know how Chris is doing.

"He is a great lad to have around the club, on and off the field. Wolves are in no doubts about our desire to keep him for another month and now it's in their hands.

"It was always going to be a month-to-month loan. He's still got three games left and we'll keep the dialogue going with Wolves.

Job to do

Iwelumo, though, has told skysports.com that his priority is to head back to Molineux and fight for his place in McCarthy's side.

The forward said: "I'm hoping to go back to Wolves in the next week or so and fight for a place in the side there.

"Mick McCarthy told me, before I joined Bristol City, that it was only going to be for a month, so that I could get my sharpness back, and then I would be needed for the last 11 or 12 games in the Premier League.

"He felt that a fully fit Chris Iwelumo would add something different to their attacking options.

"We've got some quality strikers at Wolves, but most people know what I am all about and I feel that I still have a job to do there."
