Mick McCarthy feels Wolves deserved to take something from their meeting with Manchester United on Saturday.

The relegation-haunted Midlanders slipped to a 1-0 defeat against the Red Devils at Molineux, with that result keeping them precariously perched just one place above the drop zone.

They can, however, take heart from the performance they put in, with United made to look second best for long periods.

Sir Alex Ferguson, unsurprisingly, came out in support of his side after the game following a battling display, but McCarthy felt it was his players who should have been celebrating at the final whistle.

"I think some people were watching through rose-tinted spectacles," he said on Ferguson's claims that United were good value for their three points.

"He thought United deserved to win? That is great propaganda."

Fighting

Wolves wasted a number of gilt-edged opportunities to snatch at least a draw, with Sam Vokes spurning their best opportunity in second half stoppage-time.

The Welsh forward hammered high over the top when found in acres of space eight yards out, but McCarthy refused to blame the youngster for costing his side a precious point.

"Sam would have expected to score that goal from the position he was in," he added. "He works very hard on that part of his game.

"As long as we have breath we will carry on fighting and you never know, he could be the one who gets the goal to keep us up."
