Wolves manager Mick McCarthy has warned Greg Halford he must prove himself or he will be shown the exit door.

The 25-year-old moved to Molineux 12 months ago in a deal worth £2million, but has failed to impress since joining the club.

Halford only started 12 games in the Premier League last season, and made his last appearance in the first XI against Manchester United back in December when McCarthy opted to rest a number of players at Old Trafford.

He has since been restricted to a couple of substitute appearances and the Wolves boss admits he may be sold if things do not improve.

McCarthy said: "Greg is doing well but, if he doesn't take the chance, then he'll move on. He knows that - because I've told him.

"But, fair play to him, he's trained well and he wants to be here, which is a great attitude for me to see."

Halford and striker Kevin Doyle will face former club Reading in Tuesday night's away friendly clash.
