Michael Mancienne has admitted that the influence of Mick McCarthy has persuaded him to rejoin Wolves for his third spell on loan.

The former England Under-21 international has returned to Molineux after spending the whole of the last campaign and part of their Championship winning season the year at the club.

Despite being linked with a move to both West Ham and Newcastle, Mancienne opted to make the switch back to the Midlands, conceding that he was unsure of his first-team status with parent club Chelsea.

"It didn't look like anything was going to happen with Chelsea and I want to play," said Mancienne.

"Wolves have been very good to me in the past and I'm delighted to be back.

"In a way it feels like I'm coming back home and I'm really looking forward to the season.

"There were other alternatives, but the gaffer here has been really good to me and had faith in me and helped me improve my game.

"That played a big part in my decision."

No permanent deal

Reports suggested that if the Blues were to part ways with the player again, they wanted him to move permanently, with a figure of around £4-5million suggested to be enough.

However chief executive Jez Moxey admitted that a loan deal was in the best interests of both clubs.

"We did speak to Chelsea about a permanent deal but it was decided the best course of action was another season-long loan," he said.

"Michael was happy to do that, and although he had other alternatives, decided to come back to Wolves."
