Wigan stunned Tottenham at White Hart Lane, Chelsea continue to set the pace at the summit and Blackpool were held on their home Premier League bow.

Arsenal secured an impressive victory over tough opponents Blackburn at Ewood Park, Manchester United brushed aside West Ham and Andy Carroll found the target again for Newcastle as they drew at Wolves.

Tottenham entered the field against Wigan to the strains of the UEFA Champions League theme tune, but left with boos ringing in their ears after a shock 1-0 home defeat.

Roberto Martinez's men had shipped 10 goals without reply in their opening two fixtures and were returning to the scene of their 9-1 drubbing last term.

But Hugo Rodallega silenced White Hart Lane 10 minutes from time as he fired under Carlo Cudicini, moments after Antolin Alcarez had produced an astonishing close-range miss.

Chelsea could not produce six goals for the third match in succession but still had too much for Stoke at Stamford Bridge as they cruised to a 2-0 victory

Frank Lampard saw his weak penalty easily saved by Thomas Sorensen before Florent Malouda slotted home after a defence-splitting pass from John Terry.

And with Lampard having being taken off it was left to Didier Drogba to send Sorensen the wrong way with the Blues' second spot-kick of the afternoon.

Netbuster

Theo Walcott continued his impressive form in front of goal with a genuine netbuster as Arsenal overcame the challenge of Blackburn 2-1 at Ewood Park.

Mame Biram Diouf levelled before the interval for the hosts but Andrey Arshavin bagged a second-half winner, with Robin van Persie limping out of the action early on.

Wayne Rooney finally ended his scoring drought as Manchester United crusied past West Ham 3-0 at Old Trafford.

The England striker, who endured a miserable World Cup this summer, found the net from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute after Ryan Giggs had been felled in the area.

Nani and Dimitar Berbatov added further goals after the break to leave the Hammers pointless at the foot of the table and with a clash against Chelsea on the horizon.

Blackpool's home Premier League bow produced an entertaining 2-2 draw against Fulham with Dickson Etuhu breaking the hearts of the majority inside Bloomfield Road.

Bobby Zamora headed the Cottagers into a first-half lead with new signing Moussa Dembele providing the cross for his strike partner, although Ian Evatt felt he had been fouled in the build-up.

But the Seasiders responded with a comical own goal from John Pantsil and a fine finish from debutant Luke Varney, only for Etuhu to level three minutes from time.

Andy Carroll found the net once again as Newcastle hit back from a goal down to secure a point from their clash with Wolves at Molineux.

The home side punished the Magpies for missing several first-half chances with Sylvan Ebanks-Blake firing home shortly before the interval.

But Carroll headed home brilliantly from Joey Barton's probing free-kick to bring the Magpies level just after the hour mark.
