Wolves manager Mick McCarthy insists he has no regrets about missing out on Jerome Thomas' signature to West Brom.

The Black Country outfit had the winger on trial at the club, but he opted to join West Brom in 2009 after being released by Portsmouth.

Thomas has been one of the Baggies' star players this season following their return to the top flight, but McCarthy is not dwelling on missing out.

McCarthy was happy with his options at the time and, as he injured his hamstring against MK Dons, he was happy to let Thomas speak to West Brom.

The Wolves boss faces his former trialist when the teams go head-to-head this weekend and McCarthy admits he is still an admirer.

No regrets

"He played at MK Dons and did his hamstring and we treated him," McCarthy told the Birmingham Mail.

"To be fair, Roberto called and said he'd like to look at him and was offering a three-year contract, which we weren't. They were a Championship club and we were a Premier League club so it was a case of him going and signing it.

"He'd done enough for me to keep him on in terms of having another look at him but he was injured. I don't have any regrets, it just wasn't going to happen.

"Maybe it would have been different if we'd have been in the Championship at the time. It would have been nice to get another good player in but we'd got Jarvo (Jarvis) and Kights (Kightly) was fit at the time. It wasn't nailed on that we were going to take him.

"He's done well at Albion and good luck to him, I like him and he's a good player."
