High Burley praise for Skacel

Southampton boss George Burley is convinced Rudolf Skacel will quickly establish himself as a real firm favourite with the club's supporters.

The Czech midfielder arrives on the South Coast with quite a reputation having enjoyed an excellent time with Hearts last season.

Burley is a big admirer of the player's talents and having signed Skacel during his own spell at Tynecastle, the Scottish tactician is convinced he has landed a goalscorer that will play a pivotal role this term.

''There is still a little bit to do, there are a few more pieces of the jigsaw to build but getting someone like Rudi in is tremendous for the club,'' Burley told Sky Sports News.

''I managed to bring Rudi to Hearts and from day one, when he came in to the building, he looked a class player.

''At the end of the season I said we needed to bring in more goalscorers and that's what Rudi is, a goalscoring midfielder.

''There are not too many of them about so we're pleased. He's a big character, a crowd favourite who is really enthusiastic and can be dangerous at set plays.

''I think he'll bring a lot to the squad.''

Skacel, 27-years-old, has echoed the words of his new taskmaster, clearly relieved to have completed his switch to St Mary's after a prolonged period of negotiations.

''It's fantastic because I waited for the decision for a long time,'' said Skacel.

''It was difficult but I'm glad with how everything has gone. It's important George wanted me and it is very important as a player if a coach trusts you.

''I hope we have a big challenge for everyone. I hope I will be playing next season in The Premiership.''
