Alan Pardew insists he wants to stay at Southampton following rumours he could lose his job as manager of the League One club.

The former West Ham United boss only took charge at St Mary's last summer and led the club to Wembley success in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

However, Saints missed out on promotion to the Championship after a 10-point penalty left the club seventh in the table and outside the play-off positions.

Reports have claimed that the club's board are unhappy that Southampton failed to make the top six and questions have been raised over Pardew's future.

Speaking after the final day win over Southend United, Pardew confirmed he is keen to fulfil the remaining two years on his deal.

"It's not a question for me - I'm an employee," said Pardew when asked about his future.

"My job is contracted to this club, I've enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to fulfilling my contract.

"I want to stay at Southampton. It's been a club that have grown and the fans have taken to me and the team I have has been excellent.

"I just hope we get the opportunity to build again."
