A number of clubs are chasing Stephens' signature with the 17-year-old turning down a possible move to Fulham earlier this month.

Southampton have now made a move for the highly-rated defender as they look to lure him to St Mary's.

Stephens has made three starts and three substitute appearances for Argyle at first team level this season.

Southampton have been given permission to talk to Stephens with the club's administrators keen to secure some much-needed funds.
