Brighton moved top of the Championship table courtesy of a win over Peterborough as previous frontrunners Southampton and Derby both lost.

Goals from Craig Noone and Ryan Harley helped Brighton beat Peterborough 2-0 at the AMEX Stadium in a clash between newly-promoted sides who had both made flying starts to the season.

Southampton had set the early pace in the Championship following four straight wins, but their 100 per cent record came to an end as highly-fancied Leicester prevailed 3-2 in a pulsating game at the King Power Stadium to pick up their first victory since the opening day.

Derby also dropped their first points of the campaign as Charlie Austin scored twice, either side of a Theo Robinson goal, to inspire Burnley to a 2-1 triumph at Pride Park.

Middlesbrough therefore remain the only unbeaten side in the division apart from Brighton following a 1-1 draw with struggling Coventry as Lukas Jutkiewicz cancelled out a Marvin Emnes opener.

Crystal Palace's run of three wins in a row was halted by Blackpool and the Eagles had to come from behind to claim a 1-1 draw.

Doncaster finally picked up their first point of the campaign at home to Bristol City and they had James Hayter to thank for scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Leeds took the lead against Ipswich at Portman Road through Ross McCormack but then had Aidan White sent off and the home side came back to win 2-1 thanks to goals from Jason Scotland and Keith Andrews.

Reading suffered a third straight defeat as Robbie Brady struck midway through the second half to give Hull City their first home goal of the season and a 1-0 success at the KC Stadium.

There was a repeat of the 2008 FA Cup final at Fratton Park, where Portsmouth this time had to settle for a 1-1 draw with Cardiff as Kanu levelled after Andrew Taylor broke the deadlock.

In the day's final Championship game, Millwall's clash with Barnsley at The Den finished goalless.
