Stoke have opened the door on a permanent move for on-loan winger Jermaine Pennant.

The 27-year-old, a former Arsenal and Liverpool player, is signed at the Britannia Stadium from Real Zaragoza until January.

Potters chairman Peter Coates has expressed his excitement at the new-look attacking line-up of Pennant, Eidur Gudjohnsen and Kenwyne Jones.

And he has told midfielder Pennant that a long-term switch is his for the taking.

"That's very much an option for us," Coates told The Sun. "He has real pace and ability so we're hoping it goes well for him and us.

"I certainly think we have exciting players up front - the most exciting we've ever seen here.

"The current team is one of the best we've ever had, arguably the best ever as the top division is much more international than it ever was."
