Stoke goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen is confident he will be fit in time for their game against former club Aston Villa on Monday.

The Danish international missed his country's Euro 2012 qualifier against Iceland on Tuesday, opting not to aggravate an infected elbow he sustained in the Potters' opening day defeat by Wolves.

Sorensen will now undergo a scan on Thursday to assess whether he will be able to play in the match at the Britannia Stadium and is hopeful a course of antibiotics will clear up the problem.

The 34-year-old has had regular treatment with ice on the injury since mid-August.

However, he turned down the chance to play for the national team, instead focusing on being fit for his club, who have yet to earn a point so far this term.
